Our desire for Jefferson is to share its beauty, its history , and the warmth of the community with the world.
This superb example of a mid-century Traditional home was built in 1945 by Dr. and Mrs. A. J. Woods. The home sits graciously on a large elevated lot at 305 E. Broadway. At the time that the home was built, World War II was still in progress and domestic building materials were almost impossible to obtain. Dr. Woods resorted to salvaging materials from other old buildings for the foundation and framing. This lovely home is furnished throughout with an exquisite collection of 18th and 19th Century antique furniture and accessories. Mr. Jimmy Moore is the owner.
The Hileman – Turner home is located at 408 Houston Street in the “Sand Town” area of Jefferson. Houston Street was an original entrance to town with access by an old ferry crossing on the Big Cypress Bayou. The home was built by Joseph H. Updergraph over 150 years ago, making it one of the oldest homes in Jefferson. Hershel and Claire Hileman lived in the home for 40 plus years. In recent years, the house served as a Bed and Breakfast formerly known as Winborn Haven. The current owners, Richard and Francis Turner, purchased the home in 2008. Since that time, they have brought the home back to its original beauty through their careful and tasteful renovations.
Located in the heart of Jefferson’s Historic District at 114 N. Vale Street, this townhouse has been renovated in the style of French New Orleans. It was named after the dumb-waiter style (weights and pulley geared) elevator made by Otis Elevator Company in Chicago in the late 1800’s. The townhouse is owned by Gary and Mieko Hathaway. Mieko is a professional artist and her art works are displayed throughout the townhouse.
The Culberson House, located at 403 N. Walnut Street, was built in 1867 by Col. David Browning Culberson, Jr. (1830-1900). The Culberson House is an exquisite example of Greek Revival architecture. This classic architectural style, with its symmetrical shape, low roof lines, columns and pediments, was inspired by Greek temples - a tribute to the very concept of democracy. The home is owned by Hollis and Tamara Campbell.
